Shokk & Awe Rustic Sauna
Raw, weathered and harmonious. Nature within nature.
Each lodge is individually hand-crafted from seasoned Swedish pine in Sweden itself, constructed with axed dovetail joints.
Each dovetail joint is meticulously axed to fit its partnering joint. All angles push the rain away from the walls. No two joints are the same but they fit like a glove.
Honouring traditions going back to the Viking craftsmen, Johannes and his team work with local, ethically managed timber. Slow grown, tight grained, inspiring to use and known as iron pine by the Swedes.
The architectural ‘hat’ protects you from whatever the elements can throw your way. The lodges sit on legs piled into the earth, eliminating the need for harmful concrete slabs.
Beautifully simple door joints and timber seals are designed to flex and adjust as the natural building settles into its environment. No nails or silicon are ever found here.
The outside finish is left natural and rough cut whilst the inside walls are hand planed smooth. Each lodge is fully built in the workshop then numbered and dismantled to be rebuilt on site.
Beauty is simplicity, honed and crafted to endure from generation to generation of Vikings.
The new sauna air mixing system captures the hot steam rising under the ceiling of the sauna room, mixing it with the cooler air from the floor to direct the milder steam back evenly.
This creates a controlled and even temperature. Stacked benches are no longer required (optional) which creates a flexible space for loungers, more seating and easier disabled access.
An incorporated salt spray system enriches the air with salt ions, treating skin and respiratory tract.
